Central memorial event at the Berlin Wall Memorial
A central commemorative event will take place on Thursday, 9 November at 10 a.m. at Bernauer Straße in remembrance of the Peaceful Revolution in the autumn of 1989 and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

35th anniversary of the fall of the Wall
On the morning of 9 November, the central commemorative event in remembrance of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Peaceful Revolution will take place at the Berlin Wall Memorial.
In addition to high-ranking guests from the worlds of politics, culture and society, many contemporary witnesses from the civil rights movement are expected to attend, along with numerous young people from Germany, France, Poland and Norway.
They will actively participate in the commemorative event with statements. As a sign of new beginnings, the guests will place colourful roses in the hinterland wall during the event and light candles in memory of the peaceful demonstrators in autumn 1989.
The memorial event also includes a prayer service in the Chapel of Reconciliation, during which a contemporary witness of the Solidarność movement will speak. In addition, a trombone choir with 25 trombones from Limingerode (near the former inner-German border) will perform, as well as the Dutch artist Renee van Bavel, who will present a musical performance.
International youth encounter
The 35 young people from three European countries are also taking part in an international youth encounter, which is taking place for the first time this year on the initiative of the Berlin Wall Foundation. It is part of the foundation's cooperation with the European Solidarność Centre in Gdansk.
The young people will have the opportunity to exchange views on the significance of the Peaceful Revolution for them today in Europe. The programme also includes dialogue with contemporary witnesses. In addition, they will independently develop a poster exhibition that deals with the protest posters of the 1980s. This will be presented at the visitor centre of the memorial from 9 November.
