Christmas market at St.-Michaels-Heim

Christmas Market in Berlin from 25 to 27 November 2022

The Johannische Kirche and the Johannisches Sozialwerk e.V. invite you to a cosy get-together at the tradition-steeped market at St.-Michaels-Heim in its stress-free and tranquil atmosphere. Experience a special treat in the Advent season full of anticipation for the festival.

The nostalgic Christmas market against a historical backdrop has been held for over 40 years. In front of the beautifully lit former palace of the Mendelssohn family in Berlin's Grunewald forest you can soak up the contemplative atmosphere and numerous cultural offerings. The market also offers a lovingly devised programme for children.

Handicrafts and bric-a-brac

At St.-Michaels-Heim you will find second-hand stalls with high-quality bric-a-brac, handmade arts & crafts and children's toys as well as lovingly designed handicrafts. The latter, which include delicate angels, are very popular and are beautiful gifts for Christmas. You can also buy Advent wreaths or a Christmas flower arrangement for yourself, your family or close friends. Perhaps you will stumble upon an unexpected treasure amongst the bric-a-brac.
The proceeds from the Christmas market go, by the way, to the Johannisches Sozialwerk e.V. and support its social activities.

Culinary delicacies

The Franconian organic farm "Gut Schönhof" offers hearty Franconian meat and sausage specialities, while the St. Michaels restaurant serves delicious dishes. Fine pastries, cakes, sweets and delicacies made according to old recipes can be enjoyed as you warm up in the tea room.

Cultural offering

The Christmas market’s varied cultural programme includes performances, concerts and readings as well as numerous musical performances. In the Salon Mendelssohn you can listen to Christmas stories and music, while the Johannischer Bläserchor plays popular Christmas melodies on the forecourt. On Friday and Saturday, the Johannischer Chor Berlin will get you in the mood for Christmas in the church. You are cordially invited to sing along to the Christmas carols. At the end of the day, short prayers bring the Christmas market to a close. An Advent service is held in the church at 11 a.m. on Sunday. And fans of the big screen can watch films in the Bismarckzimmer.

Handicrafts and baking: children’s programme

There is also a special offer for children: they can make Christmas decorations together, such as a beautiful gift for their grandparents. They can also bake delicious Christmas biscuits and twist bread as well as paint, sing, play and make pottery and candles. Animated films are shown on Saturday and Sunday.
