International underground charm awaits you at the Astra Kulturhaus
The concert programme at the Astra ranges from indie and rock to electro, experimental music shows and DJ sets. Nestled within the culturally significant RAW complex, the Astra boasts a concert hall, several bars and a charming beer garden. As well as local Berlin indie bands, the Astra has also made a name for itself on the international music scene: music greats such as Florence and the Machine and Lykke Li have already graced its stage. The concert hall seats around 2,000 people, striking the perfect balance between anonymity and intimacy.
A party culture dating back to GDR times
The Astra Kulturhaus building has a long history: during the GDR era, it served as the cultural centre of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, a venue for staff parties, theatre and dance events. After years of standing empty, the building was carefully renovated and transformed into a modern concert hall with a club-like atmosphere. Many architectural elements were preserved in the process – from the spacious halls to the characteristic East German design. Today, the Astra combines historical substance with state-of-the-art event technology: industrial heritage has been transformed into a creative hub.
Our tips
- The Astra is fully accessible, with a wheelchair ramp, accessible toilets and dedicated parking spaces. In this way, the Astra makes an important contribution to inclusion within Berlin’s club culture.
- It’s worth arriving early: in the concert hall, some seats are less favourable due to the irregularly spaced columns. If you arrive early, you can secure a seat in the front rows!
- The Astra regularly attracts big names from the indie, rock and alternative scenes. Tickets sell out quickly, so be sure to check the programme well in advance!
