Christmas market in the Späth'schen Baumschulen

Even from a distance, you can hear the atmospheric music drifting over from the large stage in the courtyard – from live bands, choirs and Christmas brass bands. With its glowing stars, the new ‘Glitzergarten’ at the Tree Nursery Museum adds a touch of magic. Even Father Christmas drops by, accompanied by his Christmas angel. Christmas market with a historic atmosphere

The tree nursery, founded in 1720 by Christoph Späth and initially a fruit and vegetable nursery, was the world’s largest tree nursery by 1900, covering over 225 hectares. The famous Späth Arboretum opened in 1879. For many years, the Christmas market has been a tradition at the nursery, which is Germany’s oldest tree nursery. You can also learn more about its history whilst visiting the Christmas market, when Theo Theodor, the rhyming storyteller, recounts Berlin anecdotes spanning three centuries of Späth’s history.

At more than 100 lovingly decorated stalls, craftspeople, jewellery designers and natural goods workshops offer their wares for sale. As well as wooden toys, Christmas tree decorations, balance bikes and rocking horses, or decorations for the home and garden, you can also discover art from the Ore Mountains, exquisite culinary delicacies and beautiful items of clothing, and buy your Christmas tree . Stroll through the fir forest and choose your favourite tree from the numerous spruce, pine and Nordmann firs.

Culinary delights

There’s plenty to discover here in terms of food too: hearty kale, vegan goulash, homemade game meatballs, farmhouse bread, Ukrainian solyanka and other delicacies are all available to try. Warm yourself up from the inside with five varieties of Thuringian fruit mulled wine, winemaker’s mulled wine, Swedish glögg, hot chocolate and children’s punch. You’ll find campfires and small wood-burning stoves dotted around the grounds, where you can enjoy the festive treats and warm up.

Children’s programme with fairy tales and music

The Monbijou Theatre delights children and parents alike with Grimm’s fairy tales and other stories. Storyteller Ellen Luckas invites you to experience the magic of fairy tales accompanied by music. Families can also make their own gifts and explore the decorated tree nursery grounds in a horse-drawn carriage, drawn by two horses, . A handcrafted nativity scene depicts scenes full of nostalgia.

There’s also a premiere coming up in the Schwarze Scheune with ‘Baume singt!’: the tree nursery’s resident band, Hit Muffins, invites you to a sing-along afternoon – featuring Christmas carols and soulful classics.

A varied programme of stage performances

Various bands on the main stage will provide top-class entertainment. They’ll be as iconic and neighbourhood-style as they are Christmassy and cosmopolitan, inviting you to dance under the starry sky. Berlin’s breakout stars of the year will be there: Ludi and the Lads with a healthy dose of punk appeal. Also appearing are BAUME, playing a home game in the iconic Baumschulenweg neighbourhood, Noisy Glam, the Mafiosi and Mafiosas of HitMafia, and the World Brass Groove from the truly authentic Italians of Brazzo Brazzone.

In the stage programme, packed with surprises and prize draws and hosted in collaboration with rbb 88.8, the bands will play everything from classic Christmas carols to modern songs. Alongside this, impressive choirs will perform on stage and at various locations across the Baumschulenweg grounds. Beneath the large, decorated Christmas tree, the Santa Claus Horn Quartet and the Berlin Brass Trio will be performing.

Opening times and admission prices

• Dates: the first three weekends of Advent 2026 (28 and 29 November, 5 and 6 December, 12 and 13 December 2026)
• Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday 11.00–20.00
  • Monday to Friday: Christmas tree sales only (no Christmas market)
• Admission: €8, free for children under 16, reduced admission of €5 for school pupils, students and apprentices up to the age of 28, and for visitors with a severe disability card
  Admission fees go towards the upkeep of the historic site.
• All programme activities are free of charge once you have paid the entry fee. The admission ticket also serves as a discount voucher when purchasing a Christmas tree.

How to get there

The Späth’sche Baumschulen are located in the Treptow-Köpenick district in south-east Berlin. If you are travelling by car, there is a large car park on Ligusterweg. Further entrances can be found on Späthstraße and Königsheideweg.
