Zero Waste picnic with think SI³

Relishing in the green

Working with local residents and park managers: The company think SI³ is committed to creating a safe environment and fostering social cohesion around Berlin’s parks, lakes and neighbourhoods.

The BerlinPay offer

During the BerlinPay campaign, two free zero-waste picnics will take place in Reinickendorf and Lichtenberg. Come along by public transport, bike or on foot, chat with your neighbours and learn how our parks can become cleaner. Food to share is very welcome; refreshments will be provided for everyone else. There’s also a great programme for the whole family, including a quiz on waste prevention, craft activities for children and a presentation of the booklet “Chillen statt Grillen” (Chilling instead of barbecuing). No registration needed.

The dates at a glance:

  • 22 May: Picnic at Breitkopfbecken in Reinickendorf, from 5pm to 7pm, meeting point: entrance on Breitkopfstraße, corner of Grünrockweg, 13409 Berlin
  • 5 June: Picnic in Fennpfuhlpark in Lichtenberg, from 5 pm to 7 pm, meeting point: By the Plauderbank, Paul-Junius-Straße, 10369 Berlin

With around four million residents, Berlin is Germany’s most populous city. Yet this steady growth also brings its own set of problems. Green spaces and certain neighbourhoods are bursting at the seams, whilst a lack of cleanliness and other issues mean there is barely any room left for life in public spaces. This also affects the sense of safety felt by many residents and visitors.

Since 2019, think SI³ has therefore been working on various solutions to shape Berlin in such a way that everyone can feel comfortable and safe. These include, for example, park and neighbourhood runners, park managers and awareness runners. They are all intended to mediate between the various parties and ensure greater safety and cleanliness in public spaces. They can be found at locations such as Schlachtensee and Krumme Lanke, in Mauerpark, Kleistpark or Fennpfuhlpark.
