Lucia Christmas market at the Kulturbrauerei

Christmas market in Berlin from 24 November until 22 December 2025

Christmas the Scandinavian way at the Lucia Christmas market: The atmospheric Lucia Christmas market at the Kulturbrauerei is particularly cosy and festive. It’s wholly dedicated to Nordic folklore. It is no coincidence that it is one of the most popular Christmas markets among many Berliners.

For more than 25 years now, you can discover the atmospheric market and Scandinavian arts and crafts in the quaint red and white wooden stalls, sample Swedish glögg or enjoy the "magic moments" of the Christmas market with your children. For this special anniversary , children can also whisper their wishes in Santa's ear and nibble on Kanelbullar yeast pastries.

25 years of Christmas market with Scandinavian flair

Stroll around the cosy market and browse through the wooden stalls. You are sure to find a souvenir or two. If it gets too cold for you, simply warm yourself up in the open-air coat heater. There you can slip into cosy fur coats, which are preheated by a nostalgic wood-burning stove. This wintry objet d'art has room for five frozen people. Other ways to warm up are also typically Nordic: you can warm up and relax in the mobile travelling yurt. The perfect place to relax with a drink and escape the hustle and bustle.

Scandinavian specialities at the Lucia market

For many, it is the most beautiful Christmas market in Berlin: every year, the Lucia Christmas Market begins towards the end of November. The historic brick buildings of the Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg provide the perfect setting to bring this Nordic tradition to life in Berlin. In the pretty wooden huts, which are predominantly red and white, you can sample traditional arts and crafts and classic Christmas market snacks as well as typical Scandinavian delicacies such as elk goulash and reindeer salami.

Of course, there are traditional Christmas market delicacies such as bratwurst and crêpes at the Lucia Christmas Market. But you should also try the elk meatballs, salmon potato soup and Finnish waffles, which are not only truly Nordic, but also simply delicious. There are all kinds of mulled wine to drink: From Swedish Glögg to Finnish Glögi and Icelandic Jolaglögg. You can choose from over 20 different flavours here

The Lucia Festival in the Kulturbrauerei

St Lucia is honoured in Scandinavia as the bringer of light. The festival celebrated in her honour on 13 December has a firm place in pre-Christmas customs in Sweden. During the traditional procession, a girl takes on the role of the bride of light. Adorned with a wreath of lights on her head, she leads her entourage of star boys and candle bearers, elves and gingerbread men. The Luciakör parades across the grounds of the Kulturbrauerei and then sings German and Swedish Christmas carols in the old canteen of the Kulturbrauerei, inviting people to join in. This "Allsâng" has a long tradition in Sweden.

Attractions for children

At this Christmas market there are not only lovely old-fashioned chain carousels, but also a bungee trampoline, a knight's castle with crossbow shooting and the popular star ladder, a game of skill. The wish letter box is also waiting for post. And for the little ones who can't write yet, Father Christmas will of course be there to listen to them personally. Numerous attractions are on offer for children - from writing wish lists to a nostalgic chain carousel and a bungee trampoline. Father Christmas will of course also be on site. All this is accompanied by atmospheric Scandinavian music. On weekend afternoons, there is a fun children's musical theatre in the Alte Kantine.
