Performance by Julia B. Laperrière

What if joy were our strongest form of resistance? What if we were to see dancing not in spite of, but precisely because of our exhaustion, our anger and our grief, as an act of radical hope?

In their performance ‘Hopepunk’, which premieres at Radialsystem in December, choreographer Julia B. Laperrière, four dancers and a musician explore the question of how increasing apathy, loneliness and fear can be countered with sweat, rhythm and vulnerability: a choreographic manifesto that celebrates joy as a form of resistance.

On stage, bodies come together – sweating, moving in and against the beat, faltering and constantly seeking connections.

Inspired by hybrid movement practices drawn from club culture, groove and somatic approaches, a dynamic interplay unfolds between individual experience and collective action. “Hopepunk” understands dance as a shared resource and an embodied strategy for joyful protest and collective care. Hope thus becomes an active practice that can be practised together.

‘Hopepunk’ is being presented at the Radialsystem as part of the  collaboration between Tanzfabrik Berlin and Radialsystem.

Through the ‘Radialsystem ♥ Tanzfabrik’ initiative, the two institutions are collaborating to specifically

presentation conditions for dance practitioners.
