A documentary film by FILM LAB Lausitz

He had the audience in stitches before he’d even finished his first sentence: Otto Wallburg, one of the most popular comedians of the Weimar Republic and a star in over 80 films.

In 1932, he starred alongside Heinz Rühmann in *Strich durch die Rechnung*. From 1933 onwards, he was persecuted as a Jew; he fled via Vienna to Amsterdam and was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944.

At the time, his face was known throughout Germany. He shared his fate with millions of people whose names and faces the Holocaust sought to erase. This film tells the story of one individual and commemorates them all.

For the first time, his grandson François Wasserzug speaks about him on camera, drawing on previously unpublished material from the family archive.
