Documentary, Germany 2025
Patricia Hector and Lothar Herzog seek to explore exactly what the interviewees thought and felt at the time, and how they now view their participation in or involvement with the Nazi regime. The accounts of the eight men and three women are at times painfully honest, at times disturbing, but also moving, and are equally marked by moral conflict, repressed feelings of guilt, trauma and grief. Almost all those interviewed had a positive attitude towards Nazism as teenagers – in contrast, the accounts of the two Jewish survivors bear witness to the hostility and persecution they endured.
- The film, which runs for just under two and a half hours in its cinema version, is available in an abridged version for school workshops.
