Farah Bashir’s memoirs allow the audience to look back on her childhood in Kashmir, which was marked by militarisation and in which everyday life was disrupted by surveillance and violence; Tsering Yangzom Lama’s literature traces the lives of Tibetans across generations and continents, shedding light on themes such as exile, displacement and the unbroken longing for a homeland; Manjushree Thapa’s novels and essays shed light on Nepal’s political history and social change through the personal life stories of the people affected by them.
Through readings from their works and a discussion, the authors interweave contexts from Kashmir, Tibet and Nepal. Their discussion explores how militarisation, displacement and political violence permeate everyday life and shape people’s conceptions of home, memory and belonging.
