Who is represented in queer cinema? Thirty years on from Cheryl Dunye’s *The Watermelon Woman*, people are still asking who is marginalised in queer narratives. Between ballroom culture and the asylum system, mastectomy and lesbian bars, heartbreak and summery desire, distinctive characters navigate the spectrum between queer pain and queer joy, and speak out for themselves.
