After centuries, the Blood Countess Erzsébet Báthory (Isabelle Huppert) makes a surprise reappearance in Vienna. With the help of her maid Hermine (Birgit Minichmayr), she embarks on a turbulent chase through the city in search of a book that threatens her vampire realm.

Exuberant, witty, camp and opulently staged, Ulrike Ottinger – after more than 20 years of preparation – brings her labour of love to life as a fantastical odyssey of a seductive vampire through the backstreets of Vienna.

Following the film, Ulrike Ottinger and production designer Christina Schaffer, along with Christiane Grün and Georg Simbeni from the Deutsche Kinemathek, will discuss the film’s genesis, the shoot and its visual style.
