The adventures of the first female pilots

Amelie Beese, known as Melli, dreamt of flying even as a young woman. She realised her dream at Johannisthal Airfield, very close to the Treptow Museum. Other courageous female pilots, such as Bessie Coleman, Harriet Quimby and Amelia Earhart, also changed the world by taking up a profession that was often thought to be the preserve of men. How did they live? What drove them? Whether aerobatic pilots, aviation pioneers or flight instructors, they were all united by a passion for flying and a great thirst for adventure.

Katja Spitzer and Gareth Harmer will be reading from their book *The Adventures of the First Female Pilots*. Afterwards, there’ll be a treasure hunt through the museum: solve quiz questions, find clues and discover exciting exhibits. In the creative workshop, the items you’ve found will be transformed into your own works of art.
