contemporary issues, right-wing violence and the long-lasting repercussions of the post-reunification era.

The four musicians from East Germany play German-language post-punk in which their origins,

the world of work, family and the current political climate do not appear as mere buzzwords, but as

lived reality. Their songs do not view the East German experience from the outside, nor

do not look back nostalgically. They write from within the experience of its aftermath. This is precisely what makes

of this band.

SCHLEIFEN are a playful disruption to the system. Amidst roaring guitars,

squealing synths and electronic drums, songs emerge that lie somewhere between NDW,

indie pop and a certain punk attitude.

Swantje, Richard, Janine, Anne – the four Berliners perform their songs centred around their latest

single “Wunschfrei”. It’s about unfulfilled wishes, doubt and despair, constant longing – but also about carrying on and holding onto hope. Between frustration and a new beginning, this creates a space where people support one another. That is their form of resistance.

The evening opens with readings by MARIE KUBLIK. Born in Berlin and raised in the

Uckermark, she writes poetry and conducts research into suppressed female poets in the GDR. Her

collection of short stories *Die Hände meiner Mutter* was published in 2023. At the Brotfabrik, she will be reading her texts for the first time as

“support act”.
