Kinemathek – Studiokino

Since the Green Movement of 2009 and the protests that followed, the bodies of Iranian citizens have been both sites of repression and resistance. The four short films in ‘Choreography of Refusal’ explore what happens to the body and mind when violence, surveillance and fear dominate everyday life – and what role images play in this.

Running, falling, hiding, filming: movements become gestures of resistance; the camera, a means of bearing witness. Spanning protest, war and personal experience, the films show how people confront an imposed reality and how political events become inscribed in the body and memory, even from a distance.
