Pug, a devil who is still inexperienced, asks Satan for permission to bring evil into the human world. But a novice like him has nothing more to teach people about wickedness. So all that remains for Pug is a glimpse into episodes of human existence.

This offers a glimpse into Elgar’s only and utterly unfinished opera, which was reconstructed as *The Spanish Lady* by P. Young and is now being performed outside England for the first time.

Since 2014, Privatoper Berlin has been bringing rarely performed operas to venues where operas are seldom staged. Under the motto ‘By friends, for friends’, the ensemble creates a world within opera and an opera within the world every year.
