Friedchen and Paula meet in 1932 and ‘become friends’ at first sight. Two young women full of zest for life, full of hopes and big dreams. Their friendship, they swear to one another during nights spent dancing in Berlin, will last forever.
And almost as an afterthought, Friedchen falls in love with Paula’s charming cousin Max. But then Hitler comes to power – and Paula and Max are Jewish.
Katharina Höftmann was born in Rostock in 1984. She studied psychology and German-Jewish history in Berlin; she is a freelance journalist, has already published several novels and non-fiction books, and runs the newsletter ‘Guten Morgen, Tel Aviv’. She lives in Tel Aviv with her family.
