The TATE-MAME project [Yiddish: parents; Polish: Papa-Mama] began as a musical quest to trace her roots. As part of the project, her research gave rise to a songbook entitled ‘TATE-MAME’, a workshop format and a concert programme.

On stage, Karolina presents favourite songs from her “LIDER BIKHL”: klezmer classics, old tangos, and songs from the Jewish theatres of Lviv, Kraków and New York, to which many Galician artists emigrated.

She offers authentic and elegant interpretations of well-known and forgotten musical treasures in Yiddish and Polish, as well as in German, English and Hebrew. In a poetic and captivating manner, she builds a bridge from the past to the present – where tradition meets a zest for life.

Karolina is accompanied by the virtuoso musicians Mateusz Tadeusz Dudek from Kraków on the accordion and the fiery violinist Alexander Bersutsky from Odessa.

Karolina and her team of artists and experts explored connections and traces of Polish Jewish culture in the past and present, and investigated the multitude of influences and identities that shape Jewish life in Europe.

With TATE -MAME, Karolina aims to encourage engagement with Yiddish and Jewish culture, which should play a greater role in cultural dialogue, as this part of history is a vital building block of Europe’s cultural diversity.
