Schwindelschweiz and Machine Sounds

The Huttenkiez neighborhood in Berlin-Moabit tells the story of smokestacks and inventions—and of streets that once connected factories. It is a neighborhood that has reinvented itself time and again.

Wilhelm Holthus has lived and conducted research in Moabit for over 50 years—as a local historian, city tour guide, and member of the Beusselstraße Neighborhood Council. He’ll take you on a walking tour through western Moabit to workshops, recording studios, and classic cars.

Highlights along the route include the AEG Turbine Hall and the Classic Remise. The afternoon wraps up together at the Moabit City Palace.

The walk through the Huttenkiez is part of the Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival and a collaboration between the Mitte Museum and “Kiez machen,” a project of Moabiter Ratschlag e. V.

Additional information

The Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival offers you the chance to experience the city in a whole new way. From 12 September to 4 October, around 100 events will bring the visible and invisible heritage of industrialisation to life.
