Insights into the Volunteers' Work

How does a blacksmith work? What can you make on a wood lathe? What do you need to keep in mind when restoring wooden windows?

Every year, volunteers from the JugendBauhütte Berlin help preserve the Schöneweide rail depot. During workshop weeks, the young people learn various craft techniques for restoring historic structures.

On the open house day at the rail depot, you can take guided tours to discover what the volunteers and professionals have accomplished in recent years. In the locomotive shed, you can watch the young people as they forge, turn wood, and apply varnish.

The historic trains of the Dampflokfreunde Berlin e.V. invite you to marvel at them and linger a while. Refreshments and bratwurst will be provided.

  • This event is part of the Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival.
