You enter whenever you want and leave whenever you want; you decide for yourself when and for how long you become a witness. The Box consists of two parts. Those who enter the “Coming In” section hear a monologue delivered one-on-one by the performer.
Whoever enters the “Coming Out” section is not the listener, but the speaker: here you can leave behind your own story, your experience, everything you want to share—anonymously and aloud. No one sees your face; no one asks for your name.
The two parts feed off each other. The stories left anonymously in the Coming Out space are retold by the performer on the Coming In side and brought to the stage. In this way, what one person has shared becomes a monologue that another hears.
The questions at the heart of this festival—the difference between making visible and standing by, the space that naming simultaneously opens and closes—are addressed here on a personal and concrete level: To whom does a story belong once it breaks free from its origin?
