Precious objects of courtly table culture and precious tabatières in Frederick the Great's New Wing

In a unique exhibition at Charlottenburg Palace, visitors can view treasures from the Hohenzollern Silver Collection as well as Frederick the Great’s famous snuffboxes.

Alongside the royal apartments and their art treasures, these approximately 600 precious objects bring to life further facets of Prussian court culture—allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the glittering world of royal court life and princely ceremonies.

Silver Chamber

The collection of historical tableware made of gold, silver, glass, and porcelain, once kept in the court’s Silver Chamber, is also unique in its scope and cultural-historical significance.

Around 100 court services, some of which are completely preserved, fascinate with their rich variety of colors and forms. The composition and design of the services, some of which are presented in the exhibition as set tables, reflect the fashions, culinary preferences, and ceremonial customs of the court table between the Baroque and Historicist periods.

Frederick the Great’s Snuffboxes

A treasure of a completely different kind is represented by Frederick the Great’s snuff boxes, crafted from colored semi-precious stones, set in gold, and adorned with diamonds. The king, who otherwise maintained a distance from traditional courtly luxury, possessed an exquisite collection of precious snuff boxes, which he always wanted to keep within easy reach. Eight of these breathtakingly beautiful treasures are now on display as part of the permanent exhibition “The Hohenzollern Silver Chamber.”
