Conceiving Architecture

As integral parts of the museum’s permanent exhibition, these high-quality 3-D models allow visitors at two locations within the church to gain an understanding of the architecture, the exterior design, and the interior of the building. In the process, the connection between aesthetics and functionality in the individual architectural elements also becomes apparent.

Audio recordings provide historical context, explanations, and guidance for navigating the models. In this way, they guide both the exploring hands of blind people and the eyes of sighted visitors, whose perception is heightened by the explanations.

The project was co-initiated and supported by students in the part-time master’s program in the Protection of European Cultural Heritage at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).

The exhibition expansion was also developed and optimized in close collaboration with blind and visually impaired people from Berlin.
