Togo in the Colonial Era: In 1913–14, silent film pioneer and “African explorer” Hans Schomburgk traveled to the German “model colony” of Togo to shoot his adventure and documentary films.

A century later, documentary filmmaker Jürgen Ellinghaus travels to the original filming locations of that time with a mobile cinema. Together with today’s Togolese audience, he explores the historical background of Schomburgk’s film footage and documents the reactions to the historical material. The documentary makes a valuable contribution to the reappraisal of German colonialism.

Following the film, there will be a discussion with the director.
