Garden Fair and Spring Festival

Späth's Nurseries invites you to the "Späth'er Frühling" garden market and spring festival—featuring new highlights, gardening premieres, and prominent political figures.

Blooming rhododendrons, peonies in full splendor, tulips from around the world: spring blooms transform the historic grounds at the “Späth’er Frühling” garden market into a natural wonder. Späth’s Nurseries has many highlights in store for the big spring festival: three young female managing directors are now leading Berlin’s oldest manufacturing company into the future.

The Garden Pro Talk focuses on biodiversity and climate protection—and how each individual can contribute to greener urban development. Garden consultant Carolin Engwert demonstrates how a system for sustainable plant irrigation can be created using the simplest of means.

At the hands-on green forum, visitors get involved themselves—at stations such as fruit tree pruning, balcony box planting, urban gardening, and tree pit planting in public areas.

New to “Späth’er Frühling” is the art meadow in the Scheunenviertel on the Späth grounds. At botanical painting and craft stations, eye-catching decorations for gardens, balconies, and homes are created using natural materials.

The Späth Nurseries are opening a new public Späth Library: an old construction trailer, lovingly restored, serves as a reading cart in the open air, inviting visitors to browse.

During a guided tour of the open-air nursery museum, participants take a journey through the company’s more than 300-year history.

Across the expansive grounds, rhododendrons entice visitors with a wide variety ranging from wild forms to Japanese azaleas, fruit trees featuring both heirloom varieties and new cultivars, Japanese ornamental cherries such as the popular ‘Kanzan’ flowering cherry, and roses ranging from fragrant hybrid tea roses to irresistible bee pastures.

In the Tree Cabinet, large bonsai and impressive solitary plants captivate visitors. Climate-resistant trees such as field maple and Japanese white pine withstand extreme weather just as well as sweetgum and ironwood, which display autumn foliage in beautiful colors.

Handcrafted originals made from natural materials such as wood, ceramics, glass, and paper make for perfect gift ideas.

Monbijou Theater and Fairy Tales, Carriage Rides, and Live Music

The popular Monbijou Theater presents the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales for children in its own unique way in the Black Barn. Storyteller Ellen Luckas invites the little ones to experience the magic of fairy tales with music. Families can also explore the historic nursery grounds on horse-drawn carriage rides.

Children can let their imaginations run wild with face painting. Live music creates a lively atmosphere and invites everyone to dance on the festival grounds.

Spring Festival at Späth with 100 exhibitors

The “Späth’er Frühling” garden market is a spring festival featuring around 100 exhibitors, show gardens and gardening tips, plant advice and horticultural highlights, arts and crafts and decorating ideas, culinary specialties, and unique items for home and yard, garden and kitchen.
