Swing – Tango – Klezmer – Bossa Nova

“SCHO” (Ukrainian: “schjo”) is a slang word that roughly translates to “What’s the big deal?!”—and for the trio SCHO, it means “We make music—our music!”

Founded in 1991 in the Ukrainian city of Poltava. Based in Berlin since 1994.

  • The trio performed at Christoph Schlingensief’s legendary “Talk 2000” (VOX).
  • Since 1999, they have collaborated with Karsten Troyke. They have performed Yiddish song programs at venues including the Klezmer Festival in Ancona, Brussels, Vienna, Paris, and Warsaw. They also appeared in the documentary and concert film “Yiddish Soul” (ARTE).
  • Performances in the program “Schlaf schneller, Genosse…” from the Jazz-Lyrik-Prosa series with Ursula Karusseit and Günter Junghans. In 2007 and 2008, they performed at the “Fête de L’Humanité” in Paris.
  • Collaborated with singer Sandra Kreisler, chansonnier Christophe Bourdoiseau, Chanson-Nette, and Cécile Rose.
  • As a film band, Trio SCHO performs in Dominik Graf’s 10-part series “Im Angesicht des Verbrechens.” They also appear in Theo Angelopoulos’s “The Dust of Time” and in Dror Zahavi’s film “Der Uranberg.”
  • Trio SCHO’s repertoire includes Russian songs and instrumental pieces ranging from the “Golden Twenties” to the present day, as well as original songs, Russian swing, and bossa nova. Their appearances on radio and television, as well as at the Carnival of Cultures, demonstrate just how versatile these three musicians can be. In 2000 and 2011, the trio won the Berlin Senate’s music competition.
