"Searched for a lifetime" Berlin book launch – Moderated by Carolin Emcke
Kae Tempest from South London is a multi-talented artist: In addition to spoken word tracks, Kae writes poetry and novels, and creates plays. As part of Literatur LIVE, Kae Tempest presents his second novel, "A Lifetime of Searching." Carolin Emcke moderates, and Jannik Schümann reads the German text.
A heartbreaking, uplifting book about the transformative power of love.
In "A Lifetime of Searching," Kae Tempest tells a powerful and inimitable story of family and forgiveness, redemption and atonement, longing and devotion. Of the things we seek when we hide, and of what finds us when we reveal ourselves.
Rothko Taylor has washed ashore again in Edgecliff, the rugged small town on the coast. Twenty years ago, Rothko left it. And suddenly the past rushes forward at breakneck speed: the kids on skateboards just like before, the splintered benches overlooking the sea, where Mum sat clutching cans in her arms. That one nice spot in town where, despite everything, her father failed in his attempt to create a happy home. And then Dionne's block of flats. The beautiful, extraordinary Dionne, the only person who ever truly looked at Rothko and saw what was there. Back then, he was overwhelmed by sheer fear, sinking beneath the surface into chaos. But he made it out alive. And this time, Rothko is absolutely determined that things will be different.
