Off to the flower beds
Berlin's best-known urban gardening project, the Prinzessinengärten, moved from Kreuzberg to Neukölln in 2020. Here, a new garden is being created on the former Neuer St. Jacobi cemetery. A collective of dedicated Berliners takes care, that the plants and bees of the Prinzesinnengärten will continues to grow, blossom and hum.
The previous 6,000 m² ecological and social garden landscape at Moritzplatz will now be used as an inclusion and community garden for the neighborhood.

Incidentally, in Neukölln, people don’t just work together in raised beds, sowing, planting and harvesting as a group. The aim is also to learn together, with the focus on doing things for oneself in a conscious way. The programme includes seed production, as well as processing and preserving vegetables, keeping bees, setting up a worm compost bin and even developing new, DIY cultivation methods.
Children and adults, gardening enthusiasts and beekeepers can all help in some way: by buying what is harvested, sponsoring a vegetable bed or enjoying the directly processed products as delicious meals in the garden café. During opening hours the Prinzessinnengärten offer gardening sessions and workshops on subjects like beekeeping in the city or growing potatoes. Children very quickly find out that you don't have to be a country child in order to grow things.
Around Neukölln
As colorful and lively as the area around Hermannplatz in Neukölln is, the Neukölln neighborhood around Richardplatz has a village-like feel. Stroll through the historic core and the winding alleys of Alt-Rixdorf. Travel back in time and enjoy the pretty flower and vegetable beds, discover backyards, small stores and cafés. Art lovers will get their money's worth at the KINDL - Center for Contemporary Art, in an old brewery building.
