Yoshiyuki Kakedo - Solo Exhibition

The selected paintings from 1995–2014 introduce the artist’s recurring motif: the gesture of singularity.

Each painted dot remains recognisable in its own right. Together, however, they expand into fields of colour in which the individual and the whole merge into one another. The subtle relief captures light and shadow in the works, creating architectural rhythms that shift with changing perspectives. Influenced by Tibetan philosophy, Kakedo’s artistic practice is characterised by the use of the five elemental colours – blue, white, red, green and yellow – as well as the recurring architecture of the stupa.

MAHAMAYAMA is a women-led art platform for cultural and artistic practices, founded in 2026, dedicated to the reflection and modulation of attention. Regardless of education, age, gender, income or ethnicity: we all face the challenge of a world increasingly permeated by technology, which demands our attention whilst, in return, offering us constant distraction.

MAHAMAYAMA confronts the modern crisis of attention and, through its curatorial approach, addresses the question: How do we respond to the distractions of the modern age? Yoshiyuki Kakedo’s unidirectional gesture transcends the space between the artwork and the viewer, guiding attention back to the present whilst simultaneously opening up the expanse that this focus initiates.
