Walls, Lights and Windows: Ian Waelder and Richard Venlet in Conversation

Waelder and Venlet highlight the often-overlooked fact that buildings – along with their unique atmosphere and history – are always an essential part of our experience of an exhibition.

Both frequently employ architectural means to frame both their own work and that of others. Set against the backdrop of this exhibition—which self-assuredly treats the institution’s architecture as a kind of score and puts its effectiveness to the test long after its original use—the discussion will centre on the autonomy of the artwork, how permeable it can be to a context, and what it means to exhibit in places with a dominant history.

The discussion will be co-hosted by Anna Gritz, Director of the Haus am Waldsee, and co-curator Pia-Marie Remmers.
