The son of an assimilated Jewish family, the writer was born in Berlin in 1892. He crossed borders in his extensive work. Whether literature or journalism, cultural studies or sociology, his work has an impact on the most diverse fields.
Uncompromising, undogmatic and complex in thought, always concrete, direct and constructive in writing. Walter Benjamin's life ended tragically; in 1940 he took his own life in exile.
