Wakati is a powerful, interdisciplinary experience in which dance, multilingual spoken word, and live sound merge into a poetic exploration of identity, memory, and belonging.

Identity is rarely unambiguous. The same body is interpreted in completely different ways depending on the place and the perspective—sometimes as a sign of belonging, sometimes as an expression of otherness. The performance makes these tensions palpable. Movement, voice, and sound weave together cultural memory, personal experiences, and societal attributions into a multi-layered tapestry.

Drawing on experiences across Kenyan and European contexts, *Wakati* simultaneously offers a perspective on universal questions of visibility, privilege, and belonging.

The piece does not view identity as a fixed state, but as something fluid. It invites the audience to reflect on this: What remains of people when the context changes—and how much of who they are is shaped by the gaze of others?
