Decolonizing Europe’s Capitals

*Unlearning Empire* begins with a poetic intervention by hn. lyonga. In his poems, the writer and artist explores the challenges faced by neighbourhoods in a post-migrant society – caught between a sense of belonging, exclusion and the everyday negotiation of how space is occupied.

hn. lyonga’s texts offer a poetic entry point to the questions that are subsequently explored on a political and discursive level.

During a panel discussion, experts from London, Brussels, Paris and Berlin will examine the question of what common demands emerge from the decolonial endeavours of various actors in these European cities. Taking specific local contexts as their starting point, they will explore where experiences, strategies and political objectives overlap – and where differences persist. The aim is to highlight the connections between decolonial movements in different European cities and to explore what common language and common demands might emerge from them.

The evening thus combines an artistic and poetic perspective with an analytical and political examination of the city, migration and decolonisation.
