Two girls stand in the glow of a cold beam of light and look back as if they’d caught you red-handed. Something has gone terribly wrong: their bodies no longer belong entirely to them. They become ghost detectives on the trail of the crime of the gaze that has exposed them to the public.

Their investigation leads them through a ghostly archive of choreographic machines that have observed, classified and disciplined the body throughout history: the Anatomical Theatre, where exposed flesh became a baroque spectacle; the Salpêtrière Hospital, where photographic technologies turned female bodies into objects of diagnosis; and the Soviet factory, where machines reorganised the body according to the rhythms of production.
‘Traces and Exposures’, the new work by Girls in Scores (Daria Iuriichuk and Polina Fenko), navigates this anachronistic terrain of ghosts and algorithms, girls and machines, and traces how the gaze has always choreographed its subjects, even before they had the chance to move at all.
