Gerda Taro and Robert Capa were two of the first practitioners of “participatory photography” – fearlessly documenting the Spanish Civil War and risking their lives in doing so.
War photography creates a tele-intimate, surreal proximity to the destruction, death and suffering of others. It moves between responsible information and artistic participation.
