Migrant women meet Käthe Kollwitz: Our idea of peace
From Sunday 26 November 2023, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum will be presenting a special exhibition in the Education Room in cooperation with the Migrant Women's Association Berlin e.V.
On display will be the results of several months of work in which women with a migrant background from the association have intensively explored Käthe Kollwitz and the topic of peace. The participants present their views in the form of linocuts and woodcuts.
Migrant Women's Association Berlin e.V. has been campaigning for equal rights, violence prevention and against racism since 2005 and brings together hundreds of women, mainly of Turkish and Kurdish origin. The open printing workshop "Frauen Machen Druck" in the neighbourhood house at Karlgartenstraße 6 offers women from different cultures and backgrounds the opportunity to meet every week, work together artistically and further their political education. This meeting place is currently at risk of being cancelled.
This exhibition project is the second collaboration between the Käthe Kollwitz Museum and the printing workshop "Frauen Machen Druck", led by artist and political education officer Yili Rojas.
The Migrant Women's Association had its first encounter with Käthe Kollwitz' works in August 2023, when a group of women visited the Kollwitz Museum for the first time and, inspired by her impressive works, spent three months exploring the theme of peace.
The Käthe Kollwitz Museum is delighted about the dialogue and cooperation with the Migrant Women's Association Berlin.
The multi-coloured expressive prints will be on display in the Kollwitz Museum's education room until Sunday 3 December. This will also be the last admission-free museum Sunday of the year, where everyone is cordially invited to visit the museum free of charge.
