Topographies of skin

A team of dermatologists is conducting a case study. A hairy kiwi is shaved smooth, whilst a banana undergoes a skin graft. On the table next to it, beauty products, wellness items and medical instruments promise smoother, younger and healthier skin.

‘Soft Territories’ explores the skin as a living archive. A surface that holds memories, identities, longings and stories.

As the boundary between the inside and the outside, the skin protects, exposes and reveals how bodies are seen, judged and controlled.

Through a combination of interviews with the audience, performative talks, personal accounts, skin-cleansing rituals and immersive audiovisual elements, the performance traces the skin as a living surface.

Through playful explorations of various aspects of the skin, questions arise: Who is allowed to touch whom? Which skin is visible, desirable or vulnerable? And what traces does life leave on the skin?
