String Quartets by Schubert, Fokkens, Selaocoe, and Dvořák
In its current program, the Signum Quartet once again focuses on the dialogue between contemporary music from South Africa and the European string quartet repertoire.
Three decades after the end of apartheid, Robert Fokkens’ *glimpses of a half-forgotten future* and Abel Selaocoe’s *Umthwalo* (literally “bearing a heavy burden”) address the country’s troubled past while simultaneously charting musical paths toward a shared future. The two works are framed by quartets by Schubert and Dvořák.
