The Creative Game Gallery is presenting an exhibition by the neo-expressionist artist Senta Minzlaff. Her art emerged in the wild Berlin of the 1960s and disappeared from public view following her death.

An artist like a vision
The fact that Senta Minzlaff can be rediscovered today is down to an extraordinary discovery.
The Berlin art collector Dr Wolfgang Etterich stumbled upon a significant portion of her work by chance at an estate liquidator’s.
From a collection that had almost been lost emerged a cohesive, surprisingly contemporary body of work.
This rediscovery is more than just the story of a happy coincidence.
It highlights how easily the work of women artists can vanish from collections, archives and the public memory – even if, during their lifetimes, they exhibited their work, were active in women’s artists’ associations and developed a distinctive artistic language.
Rediscovery becomes an art-historical responsibility:
tracking down, preserving, researching and exhibiting works – and restoring their rightful place in art history to female artists such as Senta Minzlaff.
The artist Senta Minzlaff’s (1909–1999) love of colour, expressive brushwork and themes are at the heart of this exhibition.
Her expressionist painting style made Senta Minzlaff a leading figure in 1960s Berlin.
Minzlaff’s paintings blur the boundary between observed reality and unbridled imagination.
Vibrant complementary colours, expressive figures, animals, gardens, travel scenes and dreamlike creatures coalesce into a visual world of great sensual presence.
From the early 1960s onwards, she developed a free use of colour, detached from the subject matter, which anticipated the tendencies of later Neo-Expressionism and the Neue Wilde.
