The history of the Lützow Quarter
"Lützow-Viertel" or "Lützow-Kiez" is the name given in Berlin to the area between the Landwehrkanal in the north, Kurfürstenstraße in the south, the Park am Gleisdreieck in the east and Lützowplatz or Carl-Heinrich-Ulrichs-Straße in the west - with rather blurred boundaries.
Lecture with Prof. Paul Enck and presentation of his book
The district had twenty-six streets, including four streets that no longer exist today. And they are full of exciting stories and many secrets. Was there really ever a swimming pool on the street “Am Karlsbad”?
A journey through time: Houses that have not existed for a long time become visible again with the help of historical photos. Stories are told of people in this neighborhood who are long dead. Famous personalities such as Rudolf Virchow and Oskar Vogt, the de Gruyter and Ullstein publishing families, and the city planner Peter Joseph Lenné lived here.
Paul Enck is Professor of Medical Psychology and former Research Director of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital of Tübingen. After his retirement and moving to Berlin, he studied the history of the Lützow district intensively and conducted extensive research.
Last year there was a lecture by Prof. Enck in the chapel. This year's event is the prelude to this and presents the latest research results.
