'Schlechte Wörter / Bad Words: Charlotte Beradt'

This live performance takes Charlotte Beradt’s (1907–1986) *Das Dritte Reich des Traums* as its starting point. First published in 1966, the book is a collection of dreams that Beradt gathered between 1933 and 1939 from people she met.

The result is a rare and intimate account of life under the Nazi regime. Drawing on these nocturnal narratives, the performance combines language and sound to create a polyphonic composition. It turns its attention to the collective consciousness and unconscious that are taking shape amidst current and resurgent forms of fascism, and explores how political pressure becomes inscribed in inner life, language and dreams.

Schlechte Wörter / Bad Words is an audio and performance series conceived by Tanasgol Sabbagh, Fabian Saul and Mathias Zeiske. The project brings together authors and artists around a shared literary text.

Readings, conversations, voice messages and music intertwine to form a sound composition
