"Too black for the theater world, too white for my mother—I chose the stage as my escape. ‘Report on My Former Life as a Black Woman’ is a hybrid solo performance that combines dance, DJing, and fairy tales. At the turntables, I deconstruct Afro-electronic sounds—from amapiano to gqom—to tell the story of a dual existence and its contradictions."
Massandje Sanogo is a performance artist, writer, and director. Her work operates at the intersection of body, sound, and image and draws on bodily memory and improvisation. Starting from intimate narratives interwoven with Black and Afro-descendant identities, she connects individual experiences with shared narratives.
