The Neverending Story by Michael Ende
Like so many good stories, this one also begins with a visit to a second-hand bookshop. There, the shy, imaginative and very unhappy boy Bastian Balthasar Bux discovers the book *The Neverending Story* – a story that never ends? That must be it, the book of all books.
Bastian has secretly taken the book home and begins to read it in his attic. He becomes more and more drawn into this story, which is set in a realm of dreams and fairy tales, fables and legends. Of all people, it is Bastian who is to save Phantásien, which seems to be slowly falling apart. As ailing as her Phantásien realm, the childlike Empress sits in her palace. Atréju is the name of the hero who, riding his white dragon of good fortune, Fuchur, roams the boundless land in search of salvation. But is it really Atréju, or Bastian, or is it actually us?
