The “Mark Twain” district central library was opened on September 30, 1991 in the Marzahn leisure forum on the Marzahn promenade. The architect Prof. Wolf-Rüdiger Eisentraut planned the building in the 80s and also created space in the library for an art library. It was and is, alongside the Artothek of the Berlin City Library in Berlin-Mitte, the only institution of its kind in East Berlin.
Like books, originals and art prints can be borrowed free of charge from the Artothek to beautify your home or office with works of art such as graphics, lithographs and paintings. The Marzahner Artothek has a rich collection of graphics by well-known artists such as Werner Klemke, Arno Mohr, Christine Perthen, etc. But lesser-known treasures are also worth exploring.
A first selection of works of art from the Artothek will be shown to the public in the Pyramide exhibition center from October 16, 2023. A continuation of the exhibition is planned for November in the Mark Twain District Library.
The band Ginzburg Dynastie will play at the opening on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at 4 p.m. The versatile musicians build a musical bridge between centuries-old tradition and modernity: Eastern European klezmer, swing, Yiddish cabaret, oriental pop and the finest jazz. Every taste will get their money's worth here.
