Berlin Palace Concerts
The harp was very popular and widespread as an instrument in the classical and early romantic periods. Traveling virtuosos celebrated triumphs at courts and concert halls.
In addition to Mozart's “Concerto for Flute and Harp”, the outstanding concert is the “Harp Quintet” by Ernst Eichner (1740–1777), a large, demanding work. The romantic poet E.T.A. Hoffmann, also a good composer, wrote a harp quintet. Still a must for every harpist today.
