In her portrait performance, dancer and choreographer Camille Badirou pursues the longing for her identity and the relationship to her Blackness, her inner self, which, embedded in her body, swirls poetically and resistantly.


She didn’t know what she was referring too,

Not yet,

Until she set foot,

Awakened and whole,

To the land where wonder slept.


Camille Badirou searches for the connections. For her, the land is a puzzle whose pieces have faded or are lost. Step by step, she develops her techniques of imagination and reconstruction, discovering and inventing movements. She finds her resonance in the land. In a new choreography, she weaves sounds and images across the sea. In a powerful echo, she creates an I and a we – the soundtrack for a new self-confidence. Step-step-kick, the steps through the not-yet-known form self-determined patterns.
