PLATFORM 14 brings international dance art to the Uferstudios Berlin for the sixth time. Selected pieces, exchange in workshops and cross-genre diversity create an inspiring festival where artists share their passion for dance with the audience.

Program

Liza Zhukova und Maria Zhukova – Seriously?

Duration: 8 min

„Seriously?” invites you to witness a captivating exploration of the phenomenon of annoyance in cinemas, where everyday moviegoers find themselves involuntary players in a drama of irritation and inconvenience. Through a series of scenes inspired by real-life experiences, this theatrical dance piece sheds light on the often-overlooked aspects of cinema etiquette and their effect on the overall experience.

NIA TORRES – Hybrid

Duration: 15 min

„Hybrid“ arises as a result of the question: do we really know our own bodies or do we simply accept the normative form imposed on us at birth?

This performance shows the construction of an androgynous identity. It is a rebellion in motion as she becomes aware of all the construction/manipulation that the hegemonic, patriarchal system exerts on her body and mind. Both mutable matter that will (de)form and (de)construct itself anew.

Solomon Quaynoo – Beyond Style: The Body as a Canvas for Black Empowerment

Duration: 8 minutes

In his piece, Solomon Quaynoo explores the origins of the blues and takes it to the modern era. The performance combines dance and style of dress with questions of identity and cultural self-determination incorporating historical and contemporary aspects as well as post-colonial developments. Fashion and movement become expressions of history and pride, illuminating the strength of cultural resilience - a powerful homage to the African-American roots of the blues.

BREAK

Minka-Marie Heiss – Auf Gedeih und Verderb

Duration: 15 min

„Auf Gedeih und Verderb“ adresses the intricate relationship between humans and nature in the context of economic utilisation, and the repercussions of climate change. It highlights the impending consequences of climate chaos, with impoverished populations in the Global South facing the most severe impacts.

Despite an increasing awareness of the need for action, societal inertia persists. In the choreography Ravel´s Boleró is employed as a musical metaphor, with a constant melody that intensifies with the addition of instruments, symbolising increasing urgency. This intensification culminates in a shattering change that prompts the audience to reassess the situation.

nelody & Chika Yamanaka – may be me, maybe we

Duration: 11 min

A dance of invisible threads, quiet collisions, and shared rhythms which unfold in the present moment. Two female bodies—the two „Me’s”—explore becoming „We“ through listening, friction and embodied play. Co-choreographed by interdisciplinary artists, Chika Yamanaka (Japan) and nelody (Finland), the piece blends hip hop, contemporary movement, theatrical illusion, and storytelling. Fixed and improvised movement sequences illustrate the dynamic relationship between control and surrender in human connections.

Laia Santanach – JARANA

Duration: 20 min

This study concludes a three-part series examining the human need for connection and belonging. At the same time, it celebrates and honours traditions, emphasising the importance of preserving traditional group festivities and festive rituals.

90 min plus 15 min intermission
