Pogo Bar
Sea Scroll is the second chapter of the project by artists Penny Yiou Peng 彭憶歐 and Marijn Degenaar, which explores the transformation of sound into a semantic and spiritual practice.

Drawing on the text *Shan Hai Jing* 山海經 (Classic of Mountains and Seas) from the 4th century BC – an encyclopaedia of mythical geography and fantastical creatures – the Chinese-Dutch duo expands the act of reading to include listening, feeling and conjuring.
Selected passages about fiery and feathered beings are translated into sound at the Pogo Bar using electronics, acoustic instruments, field recordings and the human voice.
As the audience listens together whilst enjoying soup and tea, a performative-acoustic séance unfolds.
