The presentation of the Photographic Collection offers insights into the history of a mass medium of the 19th century.
In 1838, the physicist Charles Wheatstone explained how spatial vision is possible. With the invention of the mirror stereoscope, he also laid the foundation for the development of virtual three-dimensional worlds. This triggered a stereo boom in photography that lasted until after 1900 and continues digitally today.
On this evening, art historian Nicola Vösgen and urban historian Dr. Benedikt Goebel will present the Berlin series by the well-known stereo photographer Johann Friedrich Stiehm (1826-1902). The curator of the photographic collection of the Stadtmuseum Berlin, Ines Hahn, will present special collection items from the analog era of three-dimensional photography.
