Laughing, crying and understanding with Richard Vardigans. Kissed to death. The Aquarius sadly learns that his dearest daughter Rusalka wants to leave the familiar circle of the family in order to give herself to an unknown prince in human form.
She is even prepared to give up her own voice. But the prince longs for a confession of love from her. His remorse - after he (almost) cheated on Rusalka with a beautiful but wrong opponent - is rewarded and punished at the same time. With her kiss of death, she secures him a place among the redeemed in heaven and herself a damp, if loveless, future in the water.
Alone at the piano, Richard Vardigans plays and explains the musical history of the opera in a well-founded and entertaining way.
