She is even prepared to give up her own voice. But the prince longs for a confession of love from her. His remorse - after he (almost) cheated on Rusalka with a beautiful but wrong opponent - is rewarded and punished at the same time. With her kiss of death, she secures him a place among the redeemed in heaven and herself a damp, if loveless, future in the water.
